TSSA Charitable Fundraising

Charitable Fundraising B ig spenders at the live auction included Dave Morgan and Steve Schiffman of SBS Construction, who topped the list, contributing a whopping $5,250 on combined items such as a ride in a Soviet-built MiG fighter jet, two NASCAR tickets and an autographed Roger Staubach football, to name just a few. SBS also contributed a guitar autographed by Clay Walker, which was snapped up by Dan Small of Diamond Self Storage Management (Pearland), another big spender. Small also took home the electric guitar autographed by ZZ Top's Dusty Hill. Auction chair Doug Hunt deserves special recognition: Not only did he do a wonderful job of co-chairing the auctions, but he spent $4,800 when the bidding started. Obviously a Dallas Cowboy fan, Hunt took home the autographed Tony Romo jersey and the Cowboys autographed "Doomsday Defense" framed poster. All told, when the dust had settled, including the silent auction and the charity poker tournament, members raised about $35,000 this year to help benefit the Shriners Children's Burns Hospital in Galveston, which has now re-opened after undergoing repairs from damages sustained during Hurricane Ike. Since 1999, TSSA has raised almost $200,000 for the hospital, which does not charge patients for care. 3) 1) 2) 4) 5) 6) 7) © Copyright TSSA January/February 2009 · www.txssa.org 29
